Many spices are revered for their healing properties, and turmeric is a long-recognized medicinal favorite. Traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda have long histories with the herb.
Curcumin is one of turmeric’s most studied bioactive chemicals. It has over 150 therapeutic properties, and even helps protect the body against cancer cell formation. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, turmeric also helps to protect and promote brain health and function. Recent studies have shown there is another active ingredient in turmeric, aromatic-tumerone, which appears to increase the development of neural stem cells in certain concentrations. These studies suggest that it may help conditions like Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease.
Turmeric is shown to have dozens of other properties that contain many health benefits, and there is surely more to come. Turmeric is proven to help promote wound healing, support healthy cholesterol levels, support a healthy heart, and even protect against cataracts. That’s one powerful root.
