Conventional doctors surprised by effective alternative heart treatment

The mainstream medical community is finally recognizing an alternative therapy for heart patients. Conventional doctors have dismissed chelation therapy as a sham for many years, but a recent study has shown promising results. In fact, the study found that combination treatment including chelation cut the death risk for some patients in half, and was particularly beneficial to patients with diabetes.

Chelation therapy uses a synthetic amino acid (ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid) to bind to heavy metals and minerals in the blood stream and draw them out of the body. Some experts believe chelation helps to reduce deposits that can build plaques on arterial walls and lead to conditions like atherosclerosis.

Head researcher Gervasio Lamas, M.D., with the Columbia University Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai, was completely surprised by the results – as were the other researchers. They expected the results to confirm chelation therapy was a hoax. However, this initial study has lead them to receive an $800,000 grant from the National Institute of Health agency’s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health to do another, more definitive study. Dr. Lamas has high hopes for his continued research and is eager to learn more.
