Frankincense: A natural cancer-killer

Could your favorite aromatic resin be the cure for ovarian cancer? Prized for centuries for its healing abilities, frankincense may contain properties that help stop the spread of ovarian and other cancers.

Frankincense is cultivated from the Boswellia tree. Extracts from the tree species are shown to have powerful anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-carcinogenic properties. Resins from these trees, like frankincense, are showing promising results in labs.

Research shows that frankincense contains compounds that have been found to stop cancer cells from spreading, and even causes them to die off. Cancer starts at a cellular level. A tumor begins as one bad cell, or one DNA code gone wrong. Frankincense can help stop the growth of cancer by stopping the bad cell from multiplying, and promoting the communication of correct DNA between cells.

Frankincense has long been used to treat inflammatory conditions such as asthma, gastroenteritis, skin irritations and countless other conditions. The anti-inflammatory properties of the resin are believed to be due to its’ capacity to regulate cytokine production and infiltrate leukocytes.

Researchers hope that further studies will prove frankincense to also be a viable cancer treatment option that doesn’t harm patients the way chemotherapy does.
