FCAAP Voices Opposition to Florida Medical Marijuana amendment


On Tuesday, the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics announced their opposition to the Amendment 2 Medical Marijuana amendment that will go before voters in two weeks, joining government entities on all levels who believe that the amendment is nothing more than a push towards legalized pot.

“There is nothing medical about this proposal.” said Madeline Joseph, MD, President of the Florida Chapter AAP “FCAAP is also extremely concerned about the presence of THC-infused edibles in the state of Florida as they have proven to be a major health risk for children in other states.”

Access of the drug’s access to children is a concern this year and was back in 2014, when the amendment barely missed the 60% it needed from supporters to pass. Advocates in favor of the law say that “loopholes” cited by critics have been closed in this year’s law.

The FCAAP joins the Florida Medical Association, Florida Sheriff’s association, along with several newspaper editorial boards in their opposition to Amendment 2.
